Say goodbye to the acoustic stuff, here comes the Trio. Just when you thought it was all nice and easy and typical Mayer, out come the big guns. The set ends with a cover of the (unofficial) California anthem "Free Fallin'" by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Previously unreleased "In Your Atmosphere" is followed by "Daughters". Concert staple "Neon" (complete with extended intro) gets the set started followed by "Stop This Train".

All together or on its own, each set has the capability to stand alone as an EP or a full LP just by adding a few more songs. Mayer's talents in 3 different sets that, while unique from one another, form a proverbial "Cerberus" (get it? 3 sets, 3 headed dog.) of sound that is sure to please any listener, whether a hardcore fan or some one new to his material. But do you know about his love for the blues and rock & roll? Not really right? It was very obvious on his "Continuum" record that he has a penchant for the blues and on this live album, he takes it to the next level.
Why only now write a review? Beats me.Įverybody knows John Mayer as the sensitive, "make girls scream", sing about heartbreak singer songwriter guy. Note: This album has already been out for almost four years now.

Do remember that this is MY opinion and that people are free to disagree with me. The end result is almost nine minutes of blues / soul / jazz stewed together to give you, dear listener / reader, musical goodness that shames the original.
The second half of the song (much in the vain of "Layla" by Derek and the Dominos, although this might not be intentional) is an extended piano coda by none other than Herbie Hancock himself (it wouldn't be his album if he didn't appear one way or another in each song). It's like mixing chocolate and coffee and getting some badass mocha. The silky smooth vocals of Stone contrast with Lang's raspy blues singing, giving the song its unique sound. and Bono) with Lang punctuating each line a bluesy lick. The tempo of the song is slowed way down compared to the original, resulting in a longer (8:45 for the cover compared to the paltry 3:34 of the original) and results in a very bluesy, soulful rendition of the song.
